How often will I need follow-up appointments?
This depends on your specific situation but typically ranges from every 3-6 months for stable glaucoma to more frequent monitoring if we’re adjusting treatment or you have rapidly progressing disease. I’ll create a personalized monitoring schedule for you.

Can vision be returned if you have glaucoma?
Unfortunately, vision loss from glaucoma cannot be restored, which is why early detection and treatment are so crucial. However, with proper treatment, we can usually prevent or significantly slow further vision loss, and most people maintain good functional vision throughout their lives.

Can I still drive with glaucoma?
Many people with glaucoma continue to drive safely. The key factors are how much vision loss you have and whether it affects your peripheral vision. I’ll assess your visual field and discuss any driving considerations specific to your situation.

What about uncomfortable eyes and blepharitis?
Dry, uncomfortable eyes and blepharitis (eyelid inflammation) are common concerns, especially with glaucoma drops. I can recommend treatments to improve comfort, including lid hygiene routines, warm compresses, and alternative medications if needed.
Do glaucoma drops have side effects?
Some patients experience mild side effects, but modern drops are much better tolerated than older versions. If you do have problems, there are usually alternative medications or treatments we can try.

Is glaucoma surgery dangerous?
Modern glaucoma surgery is very safe when performed by experienced specialists. I’ll always discuss the specific risks and benefits for your situation, but serious complications are rare.

Will my children get glaucoma?
Family history does increase risk, so I recommend your relatives have regular eye examinations. However, having a parent with glaucoma doesn’t mean you’ll definitely develop it – early detection is key.
